The Rise project - Roma Inclusive School Experiences - is funded by the European Commission and has the following organisations as its partners: University of Bologna (Italy), Istituto degli Innocenti (Italy), Razvojno izobrazevalni center Novo mesto (Slovenia), Universidade do Minho (Portugal).

The aim of the project is to make schools more welcoming and inclusive for Roma children targeting, in particular, Romanis between the ages of 6 and 14. This age group is often characterised by low attendance rates and poor educational success. The Rise Project aims at involving teachers, Roma parents, and all pupils in the classes of some schools in three European countries (Italy, Portugal and Slovenia) in order to improve inclusion and educational success of Roma minors.

In summary, the project, through a research/action methodology provides for: 1) training activities mainly aimed at teachers and centred on enhancing inclusive teaching techniques (cooperative learning, learning by doing); 2) strategies to involve Roma parents; and 3) classroom workshops to combat discrimination and foster teamwork.
