Discovering the Innocenti
Suggestions for Visits and Further Exploration
Area di attività

The Istituto degli Innocenti stands out not only for its centuries-long, uninterrupted commitment to defending and promoting children’s rights and caring for the young but also for its unique historical, artistic, and cultural heritage. To showcase its history and spaces, as well as its many activities and services, the Institute offers a rich programme of guided visits to be tailored in terms of format and content according to the profile of the participants (students, researchers, practitioners, policy makers) and any specific needs for in-depth exploration.
Each visit, which can be combined and supplemented on request with thematic workshops, is divided into three steps:
- Presentation of the Istituto degli Innocenti, its history and current functions
- Themed in-depth sessions led by experts and researchers and tailored to participants' interests
- Guided tour of the monuments, historical areas and services, customised according to groups' specific interests
Each visit lasts approximately two hours and is open to a group of up to twenty participants. Costs will be calculated according to the number and type of participants and the need for additional services (interpretation, catering, etc.).
The visit programme offers a choice of six modules, each of which focuses on a specific aspect of the history and the various activities carried out by the Institute:
- Istituto degli Innocenti: Between History and Modernity
- From Caring Places to Caring Societies
- 0-6 Education: The Experience of the Innocenti Centre and Activities Promoting Educational Policies for Early Childhood
- The Istituto degli Innocenti as a Documentation, Research and Training Centre on Childhood and Adolescence
- Preserving Family Memories and Assisting the Search for Information on Origins
- The Past Meets the Future
The content of each module is detailed in the attached programme.
