A service promoted by the Region of Tuscany and the Istituto degli Innocenti to support people who were abandoned in their search for information on their origins.

Ser.I.O, the Service for information on origins, is promoted by the Istituto degli Innocenti, the Regional Documentation Centre for Childhood and Adolescence and the Region of Tuscany in collaboration with the network of the Area Vasta Adoption Centres.

Launched at the end of 2017, this experimental project has become, in just a few years, a fundamental service for many people who feel the need to reconstruct their personal and family past.

In fact, looking for one's origins is an important step in building each person's identity. This becomes central and sensitive for those who have gone through the adoption experience and are looking for information on their biological families. A backwards journey to be made with competent ‘companions’ because of the emotional involvement it entails.

Objectives of the Service:

Thanks to a team of experts, adopted people are guided in the search of their origins, providing them with useful information so that their choice becomes a fully conscious act.

Who can access the Service:

People residing in Tuscany interested in receiving guidance on finding information about their origins. The legislation allows this opportunity to:

- adoptees over 25 years of age;

- adoptees aged between 18 and 24 for serious and proven psychophysical health reasons;

- adoptive families with a minor child, for serious and proven reasons relating to the child's psychophysical health.

How to access the Service:

The Service is located in the premises of the Istituto degli Innocenti in Piazza S.S. Annunziata, 12.
The information and interview office is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 12pm.
